From The Traveler's Trunk

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush

Wuthering Heights  is a song by  the British singer Kate Bush released as her debut single in  1978 (The Kick Inside).  The lyrics to this song were written by Bush when she was 18. Bush was inspired to write the song by the 1976 BBC mini-series based on Wuthering Heights. She fell in love with the story and decided to read the novel. The single became a #1 hit on the UK Singles Chart, and stayed at the position for weeks. It was a worldwide success.

Curiosities:

– Kate Bush and Emily Brontë share their birthdays (30 July)
–  In 1978 this song won the Italian Festivalbar
– A great Italian singer, Mia Martini, translated and adapted the lyrics into Italian. Another Italian artist, Elisa, performed her cover.

Out on the wiley, windy moors
We’d roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night.
They told me I was going to lose the fight,
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! It gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
I’m coming back, love.
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.

Too long I roam in the night.
I’m coming back to his side, to put it right.
I’m coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering Heights,

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Ooh! Let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know it’s me Cathy!

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, it’s me, your Cathy.
I’ve come home. I’m so cold!

Kate Bush
This is the Italian version by Mia Martini:

Nella brughiera, era dolce perdersi tra il verde
Fu la pazzia o la gelosia a infuocare il vento.
Non puoi lasciarmi, ma non vedi che ti voglio
Ti ho amato si, ti ho odiato si.

Di notte sognai, cime tempestose sopra me
Che sprofondavo sempre piu’
Sempre piu’ sempre…crudele Heathcliff
Son io Cathy sono ritornata lasciami entrare
Apri la finestra ho freddo.
Heathcliff son io Cathy sono ritornata
Lasciami entrare apri la finestra ho freddo.

C’e’ solo buio, e solitudine la tua soglia e’ gelida
Su Cime Tempestose sto precipitando,
Torno a casa per te Heathcliff
Crudele padrone mio.

Heathcliff –
Lasciami entrare apri la finestra ho freddo –
Heathcliff – Cathy – lasciami entrare – ho freddo
Heathcliff
